PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The central window group in the façade of this church-turned-office-building was constructed with a tripartite arch configuration
that was not structurally functional. Notice that the outer two arches, shown in the top photograph, lacked interior abutments.
This design defect caused movement and cracking in the wall above the windows. To solve this problem, the entire window
group was removed and replaced with a functional tripartite arch configuration that has historic precedent in the structure and
the neighborhood and is also pleasing to the eye. The new arches are load-bearing, full-thickness arches constructed entirely
of masonry.
SERVICES PROVIDED BY Preservation Technology
The plaster on the interior of the structure was removed and the interior masonry was restored to function as the interior finish.
The masonry exterior was restored, including tuckpointing, replacement of the façade arch group, repair of other arches, repair
of cracked and deteriorated areas, and rebuilding of the porch wall.
